The site is located on the outskirts of Melligen, a small historical town established within Zürich metropolitan area.
The project consists on the creation of a housing neighborhood composed of 194 dwelling units, complement by service areas.
The main conceptual line stands on the development of a “slow” quarter, with relatively low built density and with generous private and collective gardens and squares. The masterplan, which allows a calm and private life in its inner core, is completed by a service strip facing Lenzburgerstrasse, the street that connects the quarter to the city center, where are established facilities as a kindergarten, supermarket, coffeshop, medical office, such as others which promote the urbanism of proximity.
Regarding the social balance of the whole complex, a great mix is expected and therefore three main typologies were developed: row houses drawn in split levels, with private gardens, foreseen to families; large apartments with private terraces aiming families and young couples; and finally a group of smaller apartments endowed of wintergarden spaces, more proper to elderly people, single dwellers or young couples.
Regarding the ecological concerns, the whole project is develop based on energy saving technologies and constructive methods, therefore certified with the Minergie-P-A-Eco label, meant to the highest standard projects within sustainable principles.
Concerning the architectural design, the aesthetical unity of the neighborhood is assured by two transversal traces within the several building typologies: concrete socle elements which make the contact of all buildings with the ground; and on the upper floors a wooden cladding façade, based on the Swiss vernacular construction method.
