The site of this project is located on the Western outskirts of the city of Norrköping, on a sprawled area, mainly composed of low height housing and extensive green areas.

Due to the prospects of the city growth towards this area, a considerable number of projects are under development in order to densify and urbanize this part of the city.

Our project, on which four of the six housing buildings directly face one of the future main streets of the area, is intended to endow that street of a relatively urban character, but still respecting the suburban realm of the surroundings; meaning that a balance should be achieved between low dense housing, green areas and some small shops or services.

The distribution of the six buildings is made along the perimeter of the plot, leaving its middle parts for the common garden areas and for the car parking, which dissimulates itself between the gardens and the building´s plinth.

In order to address a desired urban character facing the main street, a formal and programmatic distinction is made between the ground floor and the upper floors. The ground floor is built in concrete and lodges bicycle and collective rooms, which can be transformed into small shop or ateliers as the area gets more urbanized. The upper floors, where the apartments are located, are cladded with wood. 

The group of the six buildings comprises two different housing segments: the four buildings facing Gustaf Janzéns gata, towards West, comprise apartments for sale, thus more exclusive apartments; and the apartments on the two remaining buildings, on the garden, are apartments for rental, thus more compact apartments.

Regarding the apartments layout, due to the foreseen noise levels on Gustaf Janzéns gata, the selling apartments have to compel with the rule of having at least half of their living areas facing the silent side (garden). 

On constructive matters, the whole complex is aimed to be built within a modular system, consisting of wooden structure modular containers. These containers are set on a concrete plinth, 30cm high on the rental housing (houses E and F), and the whole ground floor on the four buildings facing Gustaf Janzéns gata (houses A, B, C and D).
